As a sports fan, you always have that “bucket list” of places you want to see or events you want to go to. For me, there are three places I want to see as a baseball fan: Fenway (Boston), Camden (Baltimore) and Wrigley (Chicago). Well, this past weekend, I crossed Fenway off that list and was so worried that one of the most famous ballparks in the world wouldn’t meet the high standards I set for it. My worries were quieted as soon as I saw the stadium (and got the famous sausage and peppers outside the stadium).
Walking in from the left field entrance, the first thing to catch my eye, as I’m sure it catches everyone’s, is the famed “Green Monster” which was almost movie-like. All the history and famous home runs I had seen on TV was now right in front of me. I was able to stand up on the monster for a couple of pictures and the view was exactly how I pictured it would be – clear full view from up above.
Then was the task of finding seats as my friends and I had only bought standing room tickets, which means the ticket just gets you into the stadium. Security, which was very laid back, told us that as long as the seats hadn’t been used up to that point, we could sit. We ended up sitting along third, a section back at field level. The seats were old-fashioned, which most complain about, but the seats were very comfortable and I thought it was great. Then the 7th inning came, that’s when my buddy and I hatched the idea of moving up to the box seating. We didn’t see anybody sitting in those seats for the last couple of innings, so we snuck up and sat down. The view of everything was perfect; it was like I was in a movie.
The Yankees may have lost, but the experience as a whole was one of the best games I’ve ever been to. Even the fans were very friendly (surprisingly) to a Yankee fan. I would tell all baseball fans or even just sports fans to go to Fenway for a game and soak in all the history and cool features it has to offer, even for a Yankee fan.
