Although they won their division again in 2024, the Astros' playoffs were cut short by two straight losses to the Detroit Tigers in the AL Wild Card Series. While Jose Altuve and his teammates undoubtedly wanted to make another run at the World Series, it is likely that the extended family time afforded by their early exit is also welcomed.
Jose Altuve wants Astros core to remain the same
Although Altuve is slated to be under contract with the Astros until 2029, there are some big changes about. For instance, third baseman Alex Bregman will see his $100 million deal expire this offseason. In recent comments to MLB.com, Altuve claimed he wants Bregman to remain with the club, saying:
“I don’t want to think about my last game with Breggy, I’m pretty confident he’s going to be our third baseman next year. We have to. We’re not going to be the same organization without him. In my mind, there’s not a chance this is the last game.”
Before next season, Altuve, Nina, and their two daughters will certainly be able to spend some much-needed quality time together.
