New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge is likely going to be a nightmare for pitchers in the postseason as the AL MVP favorite homered for a fourth consecutive game against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday.
Judge, who went through a mini-slump after the All-Star game, is back to his ways of terrorizing pitchers. Judge went deep for a three-run home run in the bottom of the night against Orioles reliever Matt Bowman.
Although his 57th home run of the season wasn't enough to lead the Yankees to a win against their division rivals, the All-Star slugger edges closer to his record of 62 home runs in a season.
Judge has homered in four consecutive games, and on current form, he can match or break the AL record for home runs he set in 2022 with four games remaining in the regular season.
Even if Judge fails to match his previous tally of 62 home runs, breaking the 60-home-run barrier, this season will see him join an elite club of players. MLB icons Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire are the only other players with multiple 60-home-run seasons in history.
Aaron Judge solidifies MVP contention with three-run blast
Aaron Judge is looking to add a second AL MVP title to his resume this year and the Yankees captain boosted his chances with a multiple RBI night at Yankee Stadium.
He took his tally to 142 RBI for the season after his three-run moonshot, making him the first player to breach the 140 mark since the 2009 season.
Coincidentally, the Yankees won the World Series, their last, that year.
While Judge has already registered career-high RBIs this season, he would like to add to his tally in the remaining four regular season games as the Yankees Chase the AL East pennant.
A second consecutive defeat against the Orioles at Yankee Stadium has kept the division rivals' hopes of toppling the Bronx Bombers alive. However, a win for the hosts in the series finale will not only avoid a sweep but also hand the AL East title to the Yankees.
