Who is the mascot for the Chicago Cubs?
Clark the Cub is the official mascot for the Chicago Cubs in Major League Baseball (MLB). He is a brown and cream-colored young and friendly bear cub, wearing a blue baseball cap backward and a Chicago Cubs jersey as per the MLB official site..
Clark The Cub’s History
There is a dark history behind the Chicago Cubs choosing a bear as a mascot. The Chicago Cubs at one time used real bears as their mascot as per Todd Random Design. They even used a polar bear as a mascot in 1908. Clara Maduro was a bear cub imported from Alaska in 1914 to be the mascot for the team. However, her strength and unpredictability almost got her assassinated. Ultimately, she was sent to the Lincoln Park Zoo. One such mascot was Joa, who lived in a cage near Wrigley Field. It is assumed that Joa was gifted to the Chicago Cubs’ former co-owner Charley Weeghman by a friend who shot his mother in Wisconsin. Unfortunately, this mascot also proved unfavorable as he would bite fans who went near him. He also attacked a player of the team and after keeping him for a year, the team sold him to the zoo.
Clark the Cub was first introduced at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center on January 13, 2014. For the lore, it was said that he is the great grandcub of Joa. When Joa retired and went to live in the Lincoln Park Zoo, he impressed all the other cubs with tales about the Chicago Cubs and Calrk was immediately impressed. Then one day, he heard the roar of the crowd from the Wrigleyville and was so determined to see it that he followed it to Wrigley Field just to see the Chicago Cubs win and raise the W flag and sing “Go Cubs Go!!” The team was impressed with his love for the club and officially appointed him as their mascot.
Since then, Clark the Cub has been greeting fans at Wrigley Field before the game. During the game, he walks around the field and clicks pictures with the fans. He also visits the First Timer Booths. On Family Sunday he helps kids in running the bases. They can also visit him at Clark’s Clubhouse at the stadium. He also loves chocolate ice cream. Notably, some people had asked whether Clark is related to T.C. Bear of the Minnesota Twins. To this, T.C. Bear gave a hilarious reply through email that Clark is not his long-lost child.
Clark The Cub has been regarded as the best mascot in MLB as per a PlayUSA.com survey. He also appears at charity events, Cubs conventions, and Cubs caravans.

Clark the Cub’s Funny Incidents
Clark the Cub is different from other MLB mascots. Unlike them, he does not cause mischief or disrupt the game with his antics. Rather, he loves entertaining kids during their entrance and exit. That being said, these are some funny incidents relating to the mascot.
On April 29, 2016, Jake Arrieta of the Chicago Cubs scored a no-hitter. Clark the Cub decided to celebrate the moment by changing into onesie pajamas. He thus became “Jake Bearietta” with jersey #49 as per MLB on YouTube. The commentator suggested that maybe Clark should stay away from the revenant bear in the stands with a uniform because it might turn out to be an ugly situation as bears, after all, are territorial.
On October 8, 2015, Comcast SportsNet committed a mistake and posted an anatomically incorrect photoshopped version of Clark the Cub as per Bleacher Report. The news commentator hilariously suggested that it might have been a gag photo.
