Christian Walker attended Kennedy-Kenrick Catholic High School, where he began playing baseball. Despite being drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 49th round of the 2009 MLB draft, he chose to pursue college baseball instead of joining the Dodgers. Walker attended the University of South Carolina, where he played for the South Carolina Gamecocks from 2010 to 2012. During his time there, he helped the Gamecocks win the College World Series twice, in 2010 and 2011. He also played in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League in 2011. Walker finished his college career with a .336 batting average, 30 home runs, and 137 RBIs in 206 games.
