Christian Walker is coming off a pretty successful season with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Through 130 games, he hit .251/.335/.468 with 26 home runs and 84 runs batted in.
After the season, Arizona sent Walker a qualifying offer, but the three-time Gold Glove Award winner will likely turn it down. Rumor has it that he wants to bet on himself and test out the market.
As free agency is probable, we take a look at three potential landing spots for the slugging first baseman.
Three potential landing spots for Christian Walker
1) New York Yankees
According to MLB insiders like Bob Nightengale and Jeff Passan, the New York Yankees are expected to aggressively pursue Christian Walker. They view him as a great replacement after Anthony Rizzo recently hit the free-agent market.
Walker could be viewed as an upgrade at first with Rizzo declining over the years. Walker to the Bronx is certainly a big possibility this winter.
2) New York Mets
Walker is also tied to the other New York club, the Mets. They have their core first baseman, Pete Alonso on the free-agent market, and could be looking for some help.
If they cannot re-sign Alonso, expect them to be aggressive in their pursuit of Walker. He is one of the top slugging first basemen on the open market while carrying an elite glove.
3) Arizona Diamondbacks
The Arizona Diamondbacks are not out of the question to re-sign their guy. It is a place where Christian Walker is comfortable and the club has been an exciting team to watch.
It also would not hurt Arizona to re-sign him. If he signs with another club after turning down the qualifying offer, that club must give up draft picks and possibly bonus pool money. However, that penalty would not apply to Arizona in re-signing their player.
