He attended Bloomingdale High School where he helped the school to a Florida Class 6A state title in 2021. He was the No. 13 overall player in the state of Florida in the 2022 recruiting class. As a junior in 2021, Shelton hit .405/.510/.708 with 7 doubles, five homers, one triple along with 24 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. Coming out of high school, Shelton was listed as the No.83 player according to Perfect Game’s ‘Top 500 Incoming Freshman’ list.
The Lexington infielder began his collegiate journey with Alabama where he led the Crimson Tide in homers during his freshman campaign. In 2023 as a rookie, Shelton slashed in .300/.419/.729 with 45 runs, 10 doubles, 25 home runs, and 51 RBIs. After a breakthrough campaign in Alabama, Shelton was named a Freshman All-American and earned a spot on the Freshman All-SEC Team. His freshman success made him an intriguing prospect and Florida Gators signed him following the conclusion of the 2023 regular season. In 2024, his numbers took a hit as he batted .254/.374/.551 in 66 games and recorded 65 hits, 20 homers, 14 doubles, and a solid 82 strikeouts improving his consistency at the plate.
