The Colorado Rockies are one of the latter teams in the Major League Baseball (MLB) as compared to most of their opponents. The team was originally formed in 1993 due to an expansion of the league and joined the National League (NL). While the team has not yet won a World Series, they have managed to acquire a single National League (NL) championship for themselves so far. Along the way they have also picked up rivalries with the Arizona Diamondbacks, San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Angels. Moreover, their nickname “The Blake Street Bombers” was earned because of the high scores that they managed to produce during their home games at the Mile High Stadium and Coors Field, the latter of which has been serving as their home ground since 1995. Lastly, throughout 32 seasons of the team since their formation, they hold a record of 2277-2632 (as of May 2024).

Harry Ralston Black, also known as Bud Black is well into his eighth year as the manager of the Colorado Rockies in 2024. Hailing from San Mateo, California, United States, he is a former MLB baseball player who served in the league between 1981-95. Throughout his career, he represented teams like the Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals, Cleveland Indians (two stints), Toronto Blue Jays and San Francisco Giants. Notably, he won his first World Series title with the Kansas City Royals in 1985 and post retirement from playing, Black transitioned into a coaching role as the pitching coach for the Buffalo Bisons, a minor league team.

Black then served as the pitching coach for the Anaheim Angeles/Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim from 2000-06. This tenure saw him win his second World Series title in 2002, which was also his first World Series as coach. Later on, after leaving the Angels, he managed the San Diego Padres from 2007-15, which saw him being declared as the NL Manager of the Year in 2010. He then returned to the Los Angeles Angels in 2015 to serve as the special assistant to the General Manager. Finally, in 2017, Black landed his second manageral role, this time with the Colorado Rockies. Remarkably, he led them to two back-to-back wild card berths in his first two seasons and has been working hard with the Rockies to punch above their weight. As a manager, he has at an overall record of 1142-1303 in 2445 games as of May 2024.
