Born on November 15, 2001, Ledbetter went to Spain Park High School in Hoover, Alabama, where he played baseball. He was named to the All-State as a junior after hitting .388 with seven home runs, 33 RBIs, and 27 stolen bases over 34 games. He enrolled himself at Samford University to play college baseball after going undrafted in the 2020 Major League Baseball draft.
Ledbetter had a successful couple of years at Samford, which saw him hit .271 with eight doubles and five RBIs in his freshman year and .318 with 16 home runs, 57 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases in 2022, his second year. He then transferred to Mississippi State University after the end of the 2022 season.
