James Dansby Swanson, also known by his nickname, ‘Dans’, is an American professional baseball shortstop for the Chicago Cubs in Major League Baseball( MLB). He was born on February 11, 1994, in Kennesaw, Georgia, U.S.

Swanson attended Vanderbilt University and played for the Vanderbilt Commodores baseball team. Although he was chosen in the 2012 MLB draft he chose to attend the university instead. He was again drafted in the 2015 MLB draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first round and he was the 1st overall pick. The shortstop played in the Minor Leagues in 2015. Soon after, he made his MLB career debut in 2016 with the Atlanta Braves.

He is a two-time All-Star, and a Gold Glove Award winner in 2022. He was also a World Series Champion in 2021.
