David Américo Ortiz Arias, also known as "Big Papi," is a Dominican-American former baseball player who played 20 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1997 to 2016. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest designated hitters of all time.

David Ortiz played the first six seasons of his career with the Minnesota Twins, but he only achieved much success once he was traded to the Boston Red Sox in 2003. With the Red Sox, David became one of the most feared hitters. He helped the Red Sox end their 86-year World Series drought in 2004 and won two more World Series championships with the team in 2007 and 2013.

David was a 10-time All-Star and a 7-time Silver Slugger winner. He retired in 2016 with 541 home runs, which ranks sixth all-time. He also had 1,768 RBIs, 632 doubles, and a career batting average of .286.

David Ortiz's Early Life

David was born on November 18, 1975, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He was the eldest of four siblings. David showed great potential as a baseball and basketball player in high school. He has followed the careers of standout pitcher Ramón Martinez and his younger brother Pedro and attended games whenever possible.
