David Robertson might be among the most underrated relief pitchers on the free-agent market. Robertson's age, 39, might be the reason why. However, when he is healthy and on the mound, he is a reliable arm with a rich track record of success in the Majors.

Last season with the Texas Rangers, Robertson was solid yet again out of the bullpen. The former World Series champion and All-Star pitcher posted a 3-4 record with a 3.00 ERA and 99 strikeouts over 72.0 innings of work. Robertson has proven he can still pitch at an elite level and should draw interest from contenders looking for bullpen help.

3 potential landing spots for David Robertson in free agency

#1 - New York Mets

It's safe to say that the New York Mets are in it to win this season after signing the likes of Clay Holmes, Frankie Montas, and most importantly, Juan Soto. That being said, the club still has a few areas that need to be filled, including first base and adding additional arms to the bullpen.

Robertson pitched for the Mets briefly in 2023 and could look to return to Queens ahead of 2025. The former All-Star could be an integral part of the club's bullpen this season as it looks to win its first World Series title since 1986.

#2 - Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks may have underperformed in 2024. However, the team is primed to bounce back this upcoming season. One area where the team could improve is its bullpen. Former closer Paul Sewald is also an unrestricted free agent, and if the team opts not to pursue him, it could turn to David Robertson as a likely more affordable option.

#3 - San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres will likely be one of the best teams in the Majors again in 2025. However, they are reportedly in the market for additional bullpen arms. The Friars already have the closer position locked up with Robert Suarez. So, Robertson would be relied upon in a less significant role.

Robertson could still be turned to for the occasional save opportunity. The San Diego Padres could be poised for another deep playoff run if they bring in Robertson. It would be unsurprising to see the Padres bring in a veteran of Robertson's ilk to help their World Series push.
