Detroit Tigers Manager A.J. Hinch Family

Hailing from Waverly, Iowa, United States, Andrew Jay Hinch started out as a baseball player in high school and then played college baseball Stanford University. He was later drafted by the Oakland Athletics in 1996 and made his debut with the team in 1998. However, he left them two years later and went on to play for the Kansas City Royals, Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies till 2004.


Post A.J. Hinch’s career as a player, he embarked on a managerial role that he started with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2009 and continued till 2010. He then served as the San Diego Padres’ vice president of professional scouting from 2010- 2014. Notably, he started his second managerial run as the manager of the Houston Astros in 2015 and won the World Series title with them in 2017. Hinch joined his present team, the Detroit Tigers in 2020 and continues to lead them till date.

This ranged from mowing the lawn to washing the car to doing his homework and assignments. Unfortunately, A.J. Hinch passed away from a heart attack on February 8, 1993 at the young age of 39 years.


Becky Hinch was notable for marrying her husband at a young age and also losing him at a young age. Despite the pressure on her family post her husband’s death, she insisted her son to keep continuing with his baseball career at Stanford. However, she understood his son’s grief and loneliness being so far away from home. Hence, she relocated to Palo Alto, California, United States by driving small U-haul truck, consisting of her belongings. She resided in Palo Alto and worked at the University until her son graduated as per espn.com. She kept her late husband’s and her son’s dreams alive in the process. Talking about his mother (via mlb.com) he said that she is his greatest support system and is also a very big baseball fan. He further stated that she loves being around baseball and continues to influence her children and grandchildren.

A.J. Hinch has an older sister named Angie Wages (formerly Angie Hinch). She presently works as a counselor at Del Crest Middle School.
