Comerica Park is the official stadium for the Detroit Tigers in Major League Baseball (MLB) as per the MLB official site. Also going by the nickname of “Tiger’s Den”, it is based in Detroit, Michigan, United States. The team has been using this stadium for their home games since 2000.

Comerica Park’s History/ Comerica Park Construction and Cost

Tiger Stadium, the former home for the Detroit Tigers reached its modernization limit in the mid-1990s. The team was no longer finding it suitable for their games. Therefore, they started searching for a new baseball stadium in the mid-1990s. Construction of the new stadium started on October 29, 1997, as part of the Downtown Detroit Revival plan. Comerica Bank in December 1998, purchased the naming rights for the stadium for 30 years for $66 million as per Baseball In Stadiums. Hence, it was named Comerica Field. Additionally, Ford Field, an indoor stadium was also constructed next to Comerica Park. The new stadium was opened to the public on April 11, 2020, with the first game happening on the same date.

Comerica Park is notable for having one of the best architectural designs among MLB baseball stadiums. There is a giant tiger sculpture of 15 feet that welcomes the fans at the entrance to the stadium. It also has eight other prowling tiger statues located at different parts throughout the stadium. The scoreboard of the stadium is also unique in that it has two big cat statues in it. The stadium also has a monument park with statues honoring legendary players of the team like Ty Cobb, Al Kaline, Hal Newhouser, Hank Greenburg, Charlie Gehringer, and Willie Horton. The stadium underwent a $14 million renovation in 2014 that included the addition of lounge chairs, more seats, a fire pit, high-top tables, and a bar on the porch.

The concessions area of the stadium makes it one of the most demanded dining places in the city. Notable restaurants and bars here include The Big Cat Food Court, The Beer Hall, and Brushfire Grill, which is an open area along with a fountain. The Tiger Club allows the fans to play different games while also enjoying an excellent view of the field. An important attraction of the stadium is the liquid fireworks display with lights and music on the centerfield after home runs by the Detroit Tigers or after notable moments during games. The merchandise shop also has different kinds of souvenirs for the fans. Lastly, There is a beautifully hand-painted carousel with 30 tigers and 2 chariots which can be used by fans in wheelchairs.

The field has been created using Kentucky Bluegrass. The left field is 342 feet and the left center field is 370 feet. The right field is 330 feet and the right center field is 365 feet. The center field is 412 feet.
