After being swept by the Philadelphia Phillies, the Los Angeles Dodgers returned to winning ways with a 4-3 win over the Detroit Tigers on Friday to start their three-game road series at Comerica Park.
Of late, the Dodgers haven't been great, and many reasons can be attributed to that. One of them is injuries, as many top arms remain out due to injuries. The same is the case with hitting, as the likes of Mookie Betts and Max Muncy haven't been activated from the injured list yet.
Let's do a roundup to see what happened with the Dodgers over the week.
#1 Positive development in Yoshinobu Yamamoto's recovery
The Japanese ace has been out since June 16 after being diagnosed with a right rotator cuff strain. In the latest update coming from Fabian Ardaya, the rookie pitcher has started throwing and played catch twice this week from 60 feet.
The Dodgers are sorely missing Yamamoto's services. Before he had hit the injured list, he was having a stellar season, going 6-2, posting a 2.92 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 84 Ks across 74.0 innings thrown.
#2 Dodgers' high-leverage reliever Brusdar Graterol could be back before the month ends
Brusdar Graterol is yet to pitch this year, and as per Ardaya's latest update, he may be in line to return to the roster before July ends. The pitcher has been struggling with right elbow inflammation but has made positive strides in his recovery since the last month.
The Dodgers could use him in the eighth innings and boost their bullpen with his presence.
#3 All-Star Shohei Ohtani's jersey tops in sales number
We are only days away before Shohei Ohtani represents the National League team at the 94th Midsummer Classic at Globe Life Field on July 16. He topped the charts in Nike jersey sales last season, and it hasn't changed this season apart from the fact that now he represents the LA Dodgers.
Ohtani is leading the sales numbers, both in the US and Japan. The next players in line are Philadelphia Phillies slugger Bryce Harper (ranked No. 2) and Aaron Judge of the Yankees (ranked No. 3).
Two more Dodgers player are in the top-20. Mookie Betts at No. 4 and first baseman Freddie Freeman at No. 20.
