Does Yuli Gurriel have any children? Exploring the family life of the Cuban star

Houston Astros v Atlanta Braves
Former Houston Astros first baseman remains on the open market

After seven years in Major League Baseball, Yuli Gurriel may experience something he never had before: playing with a team that wasn't the Houston Astros. The 38-year-old first baseman remains in the free agent market. While a return to the Astros cannot be ruled out, the two parties are yet to reach a new agreement.

Although the veteran may not have much time remaining in his MLB career, Yuli Gurriel has continued to remain productive as he ages. Last season with the Astros, the veteran hit .242 with eight home runs and 53 RBIs. While 2022 was a bit of a down year, he was electric in 2021, hitting .319 with 15 home runs and 81 RBIs.

The Cuban first baseman is married to Lianet Barrera, a fellow Cuban defector who settled in the Miami area where they currently live. While Lianet is very private and not active on social media, she and Yuli have been active philanthropists. They've donated to the Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory School in Houston.

Together, the Cuban couple has three sons, Yeremy, Jayden, and Harem. At this point, it seems impossible to rule out baseball in the future. Yuli Gurriel is the son of Cuban baseball legend Lourdes Gurriel and the brother of current MLB player Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Unfortunately, for their father, he was unable to showcase his talent at the MLB level due to the US embargo placed on Cuba.

Although Yuli is yet to sign with a club for the upcoming season, the Miami Marlins reportedly remain interested in the veteran after offering him a one-year, $3 million contract earlier in the offseason.

Why is Yuli Gurriel nicknamed 'La Pina"?

Aside from winning the World Series twice with the Houston Astros, Gurriel is known around the league for another distinct feature: his haircut. Yuli and his brother Lourdes are known as "La Pina" by their teammates because of their hairstyles that look like the top of a pineapple.

The Gurriel family has used their signature look to create the "Pina Power" brand. The goal of the company states, "its main objective is to introduce as many people as possible into sports and become healthier and stronger both mentally and physically while representing one brand, Piña Power."
