Donald Trump once revealed which New York baseball team his allegiance lay with after being spotted at both Yankees and Mets games

U.S. President Donald Trump speaks after meeting with youth baseball players on the South Lawn of the White House on July 23, 2020 in Washington, DC. President Trump and former New York Yankees Hall of Fame pitcher Mariano Rivera met with youth baseball players to celebrate Opening Day of Major League Baseball.

Spotted attending multiple MLB games in the past, Donald Trump is no outsider to any New York games, be them Yankees or Mets.

The Queen's native has been a regular figure in both fixtures in the past. He has been seen beside George Steinbrenner in his private box at Yankee Stadium and in his box near the Mets’ dugout. Trump has also said that team owner Fred Wilpon is a great friend of his.

When quizzed about which team he roots for in 2006, Trump maintained a very neutral stance.

“I’m really loyal to both teams,” Trump told New York Times reporter (and DealBook contributor) Ken Belson.

He said that he does go to many Mets games too and that he was at the Shea Stadium in 2006 when they beat the Cardinals 2-0. This was in the first game of the National League Championship Series.

He most famously made it on the Shea Stadium’s “Kiss Cam” promotion with his wife during the game (where couples were shown on the big screen and urged to kiss for the crowd). It took 50-odd thousand fans to get Donald Trump to flinch, who obliged in return.

Which MLB team does Donald Trump root for?

Born in Queens, Donald Trump loved baseball as a kid. He loved individual players growing up rather than teams. His favorites included Yankees catcher Yogi Berra and Brooklyn Dodgers backstop Roy Campanella.

Trump was a big collector of baseball cards and was reported to have snuck a transistor radio into class to listen to key pennant race games.

He was an ardent Los Angeles Dodgers fan growing up but also loved the Yankees. It was difficult for him, just like it is for many of us, to root for just one team.

Whatever is said and done, Trump truly came of age in a halcyon era for baseball in New York.
