There have been once again rumors that Hal Steinbrenner might be willing to sell the New York Yankees. However, he clearly put the rumors to rest by stating that he has no plans to sell the New York Yankees.
Recently in an exclusive discussion, New York Post's John Heyman asked Hal Steinbrenner whether he is willing to sell the Yankees. Steinbrenner said:
"There's no discussion about selling the team. This is a multi-generational effort at this point. Here at our Himes Complex, our player development complex in Tampa, I've got two of my nephews here that work full-time now.
"My niece runs the Tampa Foundation with my sister... So we are invested as a family very much, obviously, so, no, there're no talks or plans- you're not getting rid of me yet."
However, this is not the first time that Steinbrenner had put to rest such rumors. In 2012, there was a New York Daily News story that stated he was willing to sell the team. At that time, he said that it was pure fiction and that the Yankees would be in his family for many years to come.
Notably, the Steinbrenners first acquired the team in 1973 when a group including the late George M. Steinbrenner bought the team for $8.8 million.
Thus, Hal Steinbrenner has no desire to sell the New York Yankees.
Hal Steinbrenner stated that not winning World Series is not a season failure
It seems that Hal Steinbrenner, although has high expectations from the Yankees, is less strict than his father, the late George Steinbrenner. During his father's time, it was considered a season failure if the Yankees did not win the World Series.
However, Hal is of the opinion that although they failed in their ultimate goal of winning a championship, he is going to look at the number of games they won in the season and if they went to the Division Series that season is not a failure.
The New York Yankees have 27 World Series titles. They won their last World Championship in 2009. However, it is expected that they will win another one very soon.
