Fernando Valenzuela Anguamea is a former Mexican-American pitcher in baseball. He has played for a variety of teams including the Los Angeles Dodgers, California Angels (Los Angeles Angels), Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals.
Fernando Valenzuela was born on November 1, 1960 in Etchohuaquila, Sonora, Mexico. He made his MLB debut for the Dodgers on September 15, 1980. Although he was a pitcher, he was also a good hitter. He mainly played the pinch-hitting style in baseball. He has achieved numerous accomplishments in his baseball career, including being a 6-time All-Star from 1981-1986. He was a World Series Champion in 1981. Valenzuela attracted a lot of fans from the Mexican community of Los Angeles due to his baseball skills. His craze came to be called “Fernandomania” and he got the nickname “El Toro” because of his excellent debut.
Fernando Valenzuela posted an ERA of 3.54 with a win-loss record of 173-153, 2074 strikeouts, pitched in 2930.0 innings and had a WHIP of 1.32.
