Fernando Valenzuela Anguamea is a former Mexican-American pitcher in baseball. He has played for various clubs such as the Los Angeles Dodgers, California Angels (Los Angeles Angels), Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals.

Fernando Valenzuela was born on November 1, 1960 in Etchohuaquila, Sonora, Mexico. He played in the Mexican leagues before making the move to MLB. He made his MLB debut for the Dodgers on September 15, 1980. He was nicknamed “El Toro” for his excellent MLB debut. He is a 6-time All-Star from 1981-1986. He has also helped the National League by winning the Rookie of the Year Award in 1981, NL Cy Young Award in 1981 and also becoming the World Series Champion in 1981. He was also the MLB strikeout leader in 1981. Apart from that, he is a winner of the Gold Glove Award in 1986, a 2-time Silver Slugger Award winner in 1981 and 1983. Finally, he is also the NL wins leader in 1986.

Fernando Valenzuela has played a total of 17 MLB seasons. He has posted an ERA of 3.54 with 2074 strikeouts, pitched 2930.0 innings and has a WHIP of 1.32. He retired from baseball after the 1997 season. In 2003, he returned to the Dodgers as part of the Spanish broadcast team. He was also inducted into the Mexican Professional Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.
