Fernando Valenzuela Anguamea is a former Mexican-American pitcher in baseball. He has played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, California Angels (Los Angeles Angels), Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals.

Born on November 1, 1960, Fernando Valenzuela first made his career in the Mexican leagues before making the jump to MLB. He made his MLB debut on September 15, 1980 for the Dodgers. He had his best career during the 1981 and 1986 MLB seasons. Furthermore, he is also a 6-time All-Star from 1981-1986. He attracted a large fan following from the Mexican community of Los Angeles, which led to his fan following being called “Fernandomania”. He was also given the nickname “El Toro” because of his brilliant MLB debut. He has won numerous accolades throughout his 17 MLB seasons as a baseball player, including a 2-time Silver Slugger Award winner in 1981 and 1983. He also became a World Series Champion in 1981.

Fernando Valenzuela has posted an ERA of 3.54 with 2074 strikeouts and has pitched in 2930.0 innings. He also has a WHIP of 1.32. He retired from baseball after 1997. He returned to the Dodgers as part of the Spanish broadcast team in 2003. In 2014, he was inducted into the Mexican Professional Baseball Hall of Fame.
