Gleyber Torres is a professional baseball player, serving as the second baseman for the Detroit Tigers in Major League Baseball (MLB). He joined the Tigers on December 27, 2024, signing a one-year deal worth $15 million. Before moving to Detroit, Torres played for the New York Yankees from 2018 to 2024, earning MLB All-Star honors twice, in 2018 and 2019.

Torres began his professional career after signing with the Chicago Cubs as an international free agent in 2013. He made his professional debut in 2014 with the Arizona Cubs. On July 25, 2016, he was traded to the Yankees, where he played in the minor leagues, with teams such as the Tampa Yankees, before making his MLB debut on April 22, 2018, for the Yankees.

Elbow injury

Gleyber Torres suffered an elbow injury on July 30, 2020, according to Fox Sports. He underwent X-rays and was diagnosed with a right elbow contusion, according to the MLB official site. However, the test was negative, and he returned to the lineup.

Quad/Hamstring injury

Gleyber Torres suffered a quad/hamstring injury on August 20, 2020, according to Fox Sports. He was placed on the injured list and missed two to three weeks of games while recovering, according to The Washington Post.

Back injury

Gleyber Torres suffered a back injury on June 17, 2021, as per Fox Sports. He left the game against the Toronto Blue Jays with low-back stiffness and was thought to have tweaked his back as per the New York Post. It happened when he lost his footing after throwing to second base on a grounder from Bo Bichette. He fell backward and stayed down for a few seconds.

Gleyber Torres also suffered from COVID-19 earlier on May 13, 2021, after he tested positive and missed a week. As per the MLB official site, he was placed on the 10-day injured list and was activated on May 19, 2021.
