Before today’s game, Hideki Matsui signed a minor league contract to rejoin the Yankees organization, and then signed his retirement papers to officially retire as a Yankee.
“I love Matsu, man. I’ve always told you guys he’s been one of my favourite team-mates. I’m looking forward to seeing him,” Derek Jeter told Chad Jennings of the Journal News. “He was a professional. He played every day. The biggest thing is he never made excuses. He never talked about injuries; he never used injuries as an excuse. He went out there and played. As players, you appreciate that.”
Thank you, Hideki, for all of the great memories, especially in the 2009 World Series as MVP.
