The Houston Astros are one of the two teams alongside the Texas Rangers that represent the state of Texas in Major League Baseball (MLB). They started their journey in 1962 as the Houston Colt .45s and kept the name until 1964 after which they adopted their present name in 1965. Moreover, the team is an erstwhile member of the National League (NL) between 1962-2012, during which they represented both the West Division (1969-1993) and the Central Division (1994-2012). However, they became members of the West Division in the American League (AL) in 2013 due to a realignment of the league.

Furthermore, the Houston Astros share divisional rivalry with the Texas Rangers and host the "Lone Star Series" to assert dominance over each other. Talking about their achievements, the team has won the World Series twice, the National League (NL) title once, NL West Division title thrice, NL Central Division title four times, American League (AL) title four times and AL West Division title five times as of 2024.

Heading into the 2024 season, Josue Espada was promoted as the new manager of the Houston Astros. This comes after former manager Dusty Baker announced his retirement following the conclusion of the 2023 MLB season.

Hailing from Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Espada began his baseball career at the University of Mobile in Mobile, Alabama before getting drafted by the Oakland Athletics in 1996. However, his career was limited to the minor leagues for the Oakland Athletics, Florida Marlins, Colorado Rockies, Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers and Tampa Bay Devil Rays until he retired in 2005. Post retirement, he became a coach with the Florida Marlins in 2010 as their minor league infield co-ordinator and third base coach till 2013. After the season, Espada was reassigned to manage the Jupiter Hammerheads in the Florida State League but instead chose to join the New York Yankees in 2015 where he served as their third base coach and infield coach until 2017. After the Yankees, he landed a job as the bench coach with the Houston Astros in 2018. His tenure was long enough to see him win the World Series title in 2022 before being appointed as the manager following the 2023 MLB season.
