How old is Tommy Hunter? Looking at journeyman pitcher's MLB career

New York Mets relief pitcher Tommy Hunter enters his 16th MLB season

Now 16 years into his MLB career, Tommy Hunter may not be the number one pitcher in the heart of New York Mets fans today. During today's matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers, the veteran Hunter has allowed five runs in one inning of action so far.

At the time of writing this article, he remains on the mound, so this number could grow even larger.

While this may not have been the appearance that Hunter would have wanted, the 36-year-old has enjoyed a successful MLB career. He was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the first round (54th overall) of the 2007 MLB Amateur Draft from the University of Alabama.

Hunter began his career as a starting pitcher with the Rangers, where he spent the first four seasons of his MLB career. During his time with Texas, Hunter posted a 23-13 record with a 4.36 ERA while recording 151 strikeouts.

On July 30, 2011, the Rangers traded Tommy Hunter and first baseman Chris Davis to the Baltimore Orioles for reliever Koji Uehara. The trade initially paid dividends for the Orioles as Hunter was a serviceable member of the starting rotation.

During the 2015 season, Tommy Hunter began the journeyman portion of his career, making stops all across the MLB. The veteran, now a relief pitcher, spent time with the Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Guardians, Tampa Bay Rays, and Philadelphia Phillies before finding himself as a member of the New York Mets this season.

"Phill the team is in massive trouble. You have Tommy Hunter a 56 yr old in the bullpen coming into games that are still close… Buc waived the white flag bringing him into this game with 2 guys on. Just get ready for tomorrow." - @KRNG_Chris
