Another significant name could soon find himself in the sights of MLB clubs as star South Korean infielder Hyeseong Kim could soon make the jump to North America. He is expected to be posted soon by his KBO club, the Kiwoom Heroes, which would allow him to join an MLB team ahead of the 2025 season.
Once Hyeseong Kim is officially posted, several MLB teams are expected to vie for his signature. An elite defender, Kim is the only player in KBO history to win a Gold Glove at both second base and shortstop. While his defense might be the part of his game that gets the most attention, Hyeseong Kim is no slouch with the bat.
Last season for the Kiwoom Heroes, he posted a .326 batting average with 11 home runs, 75 RBIs and 30 stolen bases. His combination of on-base skills and speed will only increase his value among MLB clubs. Things could get interesting for the young star.
Here's a look at 3 potential landing spots in the MLB for Hyeseong Kim once he is posted
#1 - Seattle Mariners
The Seattle Mariners are the team considered the most likely to be in pursuit of Kim. They are in desperate need of bolstering their infield and the South Korean star could provide the club with upside on both sides of the ball. Given Kim's ability to get on base, as well as play world-class defense, he could be a game-changer for the Mariners in free agency.
#2 - San Francisco Giants
Another team with plenty of areas that need to be addressed is the San Francisco Giants. While they are unlikely to pursue expensive free agents such as Juan Soto, bringing in a young player with the upside of Hyeseong Kim could be a major victory for the front office.
The Giants are no strangers to signing international free agents as they inked South Korean outfielder Jung-Hoo Lee to a six-year $113 million deal. The pair battled but ultimately lost the 2022 Korean Series together, so their friendship could become a factor in free agency.
#3 - Toronto Blue Jays
It's going to be interesting to see how the offseason unfolds for the Toronto Blue Jays. After missing the postseason last year, the club has been linked to many free agents; however, given their need in the middle infield, Hyeseong Kim could be an intriguing fit. His elite defense and on-base skills should make him an impact player right out of the gate.
