CC Sabathia was recently elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame after completing a terrific career as a starting pitcher. While Sabathia pitched for a couple of different teams during his MLB career, he is most known for his work with the New York Yankees.
According to a recent interview, if Sabathia had his way back in 2008, he would not have ever been a New York Yankee. MLB Network shared a brief explanation from Sabathia as he sat down and spoke with Chris Young.
Chris Young talked to Sabathia about his willingness to take on the pressure and join the New York Yankees. However, Sabathia's response was not expected.
"I did everything I could not to be a Yankee," Sabathia said. "And just not knowing how special it was in the Bronx, and understanding putting on that uniform."
It didn't take Sabathia long to warm up to the idea of pitching for the New York Yankees, especially as the team started to win some big games. In the interview, he discussed how his mindset changed after the Yankees gave him the best chance to win a World Series.
"How could you not go to the Bronx? It's the only place to go if you really want to win."
Sabathia did plenty of winning with the New York Yankees as he was named American League Championship Series MVP in 2009. A few days later, the Yankees were able to win the World Series title.
