Nearly eight years into MLB retirement, Alex Rodriguez is not one to sit idle. This week, the three-time MVP suited up for the American Century Championship in State Line, Nevada.
Rodriguez informed fans on Instagram that he was playing on Monday with his nephew, Nick Silva. Silva is A-Rod's sister's son and a former Chicago White Sox pitcher who now works as a sports and media associate for A-Rod Corp.
Silva was picked in the 40th round of the 2019 MLB June Amateur Draft from the University of Maine by the Chicago White Sox. Silva made 19 appearances for Chicago's minor league team, posting a 4.68 ERA and a 1-1 record before taking a step away from professional baseball.
The American Century Championship is taking place from July 10 until July 14 and features some of the most high-profile names in the sports world.
In addition to Alex Rodriguez and his nephew, former St. Louis Cardinals icon Albert Pujols, as well as former NFL quarterback Trevor Lawrence, are set to compete. Last season, NBA star Steph Curry won the championship but will not be competing this time around.
Since retiring from the New York Yankees in 2016, Alex Rodriguez has made the pivot from sports to business. Through A-Rod Corp., the 48-year-old has staked his claim in a variety of industries, from e-sports to real estate to beer. He is also a part-time FOX analyst and covers their major events.
Alex Rodriguez after dropping off Natasha at Michigan
While he remains a busy man, A-Rod finds time with family, especially for his two daughters. Last September, when A-Rod dropped his eldest daughter, Natasha, off at college, the former slugger told US Weekly:
“I can’t believe it. I’m gonna drop her off in a few weeks in Ann Arbor, and I’m both incredibly proud of Natasha but also incredibly sad that my first baby is leaving us. And you know, for us dads, they’re always our babies — even if they’re 30 years old.”
Alex Rodriguez's second daughter is named Ella. The former Yankees star is currently dating fitness instructor Jaclyn Cordeiro.
