Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson has a way to celebrate his wife Mallory's profession on and off the field. The duo, who both play at the top of their respective sports, have the utmost respect for each other, which was on full display through Swanson's custom practice shirts.
Mallory Swanson plays for the US Women's National Team and the Chicago Red Stars. Recently, she was part of the US national squad that captured its fifth consecutive and seventh overall SheBelieves Cup title.
To support his wife on her game days, Dansby has been spotted wearing a customized shirt with her name on it in his practice outfits.
"Mallory Swanson is good at soccer," the print on the shirt read.
Mallory Swanson to set foot in Dansby Swanson's home ballpark to play rather than watch
Fresh off winning the SheBelieves Cup where Mallory Swanson and company defeated Team Canada 5-4 in a penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw through regulation, Dansby Swanson's wife will grace the turf of Wrigley Field on June 8.
The Red Stars announced on April 16 that they will host Bay FC in the Friendly Confines on June 8 at 6:30 p.m. CT, marking the first NWSL game ever played at Wrigley Field. However, during that time, Swanson will be with the Cubs, facing the Reds in Cincinnati.
At the time of the announcement, Dansby expressed his excitement about the update, saying this is a sign of the growth of women's sports.
“It's really cool for the Red Stars and just the growth of women's soccer and women's sports in general,” Swanson said on Tuesday in San Diego. “Giving fans the easier accessibility at a place like Wrigley, I think it's just a really cool opportunity for the Chicago Red Stars.” [via MLB.com].
Mallory Swanson's soccer journey hit a bug when she tore her left patella tendon in a USWNT match against Ireland on April 8, 2023. This led to her being out for the ninth edition of the FIFA Women's World Cup, which was won by Spain. She finally made her return to the field on March 16 for the Red Stars; a game that Dansby Swanson attended.
