After a breakout season in the Frauen-Bundesliga, midfielder Georgia Stanway is making the most of the offseason. On Tuesday, the British football star was in New York, and dropped into Citi Field.

Per both Stanway's and the Mets' Instagram accounts, the she met pitcher David Peterson to swap jerseys. While Stanway received a Mets jersey with Peterson's name on the back, the pitcher was gifted a Bayern Munich jersey, a team that currently owns the Frauen-Bundesliga title.

Born in the northern English town of Barrow-in-Furness, Georgia Stanway showed football talent from a very young age. At 16, she left her native region of Cumbria to play for Blackburn Rovers, and later Manchester City FC.

In mid-2022, Stanway inked a three-year deal with Bayern Munich, which was extended a year later. Regarded as one of the central players on her club, Stanway became the first player to score in four consecutive appearances this past season for Bayern Munich.

Now firmly in the middle of the offseason, Stanway's visit to Citi Field in Queens came during the Mets' recent home series against the San Diego Padres. Stanway's trip to America was aimed at growing the popularity of Bayern Munich as well as women's football. Additionally, Stanway volunteered with a local non-profit to help a local girls team design their own outfits.

Stanway's visit to Citi Field was not the only high-profile European footballer to make a visit to an MLB Stadium this week. Recently, French Chelsea FC center-back Axel Disasi tossed out the ceremonial first pitch at a Miami Marlins game.

Georgia Stanway enjoying a well-deserved summer off

After losing the Women's World Cup final to Spain in a heartbreaker for England last August, Stanway went on to win her second straight Frauen-Bundesliga title. Now, the football star is poised for her first summer off since 2016, as she told DW News recently:

"Actually for me this summer, it's an opportunity for me to get a break. This will be my first summer off since 2016, from youth tournaments to Euros/World Cups.
"As much as I am disappointed I'm not going to the Olympics because I would have loved to have represented Team GB, I also know that my body and my mind are dying for a rest. It seems like an ideal time"

For the time being, Georgia Stanway will seek to drum up support for women's football from the sidelines.
