Former Dodgers pitcher Jack Flaherty was among those in attendance for the inaugural amfAR Gala in Las Vegas last week. A star-studded meeting to raise funds for HIV/AIDS research. True to form, the ace did not disappoint when it came to fashion points.
Hosted by renowned talk show host Jay Leno, the event raised over $3 million towards finding a cure for the disease. Hosted at the Wynn Las Vegas, the event included a laundry list of stars like Sylvester Stallone, Diana Ross, and Amber Riley.
Over a week later, designer Brittany Hampton took to her own Instagram account to show how she styled Jack Flaherty for the occasion. Clad in styles from Dior and David Yurman, Hampton ensured that Flaherty was looking his very best.
Flaherty, who grew up in Burbank, California, was traded to the Dodgers from the Detroit Tigers at the 2024 deadline. A former Cy Young contender, the 29-year-old has often used his platform as one of the best arms in baseball to magnify social causes that are important to him.
In 2020, when he was pitching for the St. Louis Cardinals, Flaherty joined the Players Alliance, a group of current and former players who advocate for diversity and inclusion. Jack Flaherty has also spoken favorably of the Black Lives Matter movement in the past.
"A standing ovation for Paramount Global, our Presenting Sponsor of #amFARLasVegas. Your generous support empowers our mission to end HIV and fuels the fight for a cure. We are incredibly grateful to have you by our side." - amFAR
On the field, the 2024 season was one of Jack Flaherty's best. Split between the Tigers and the Los Angeles Dodgers, the right-hander went 13-7, pitching to a 3.17 ERA, and collecting the first World Series title of his career last October.
Jack Flaherty enters free agency on a high note
After the incredible 2024 season, Flaherty finds himself in the free agency market. Already, several teams - including the Toronto Blue Jays - appear to be showing interest. Although the road to a new MLB home is not always a straight one, the poise shown by Flaherty in 2024 is bound to draw in some contending offers.
Moreover, the fact that whichever team lands him will be able to acquire an altruistic member of the lineup only adds to the appeal of this former Cy Young contender.
