The Royals will try and cool off the red-hot Indians as they cruise into town going 9-1 in their last 10 games. Kansas City is in the midst of a stretch where they play 21 games all against contending teams. Honestly, you could throw Seattle in there to make it seem like a never-ending stretch of us playing contending teams, but I figure that they probably will not contend. Due to night’s rainout, the match is scheduled to be made up on August 25th.
Pitching tonight will be Jason Vargas and Cory Kluber. Vargas’ last three starts against the Indians is 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA. Vargy is 5-2 on the year with a 3.28 ERA. Cory Kluber’s numbers are similar. Kluber is 6-3 with a 3.23 ERA. One of my twitter followers asked me if I thought they would win against Kluber tonight. To sum up my answer, no, I don’t think we’ll beat him tonight.
Wrapping up the series will be Yordano Ventura and Trevor Bauer. Ventura has not pitched against the Indians in 2014, but in 2013 he was 0-0 with a 1.29 ERA against the Tribe. The Royals have never faced Trevor Bauer, so be prepared for him to look like Cy Young.
I expect very much to be swept by Cleveland, and Detroit for the matter. I also expect the Royals to be in last place by the month’s end. With our ace not putting up ace-like numbers, aside from his last start, our pitching staff is doomed. Our offense will probably fall flat just like the pitching. When your first three in the lineup are batting a combined .249 with a .297 OBP, you aren’t going to win games. This season may soon spin out of control for the Royals…. It will not be pretty.
