Is MLB Extra Innings' streaming package better than MLB Network for streaming out-of-market games? Comparing prices and benefits

2021 Gatorade All-Star Workout Day
MLB Extra Innings has presented itself as a viable alternative to the MLB Network - but is it worth it?

Last season, millions of fans tuned in to the MLB Network to catch action from their favorite teams, as well as games from all around the league.

Primarily owned by the league itself, the MLB Network offers fans an opportunity to watch several games each week in crisp, 4K resolution. Although local market blackout restrictions apply on the network, fans can tune in to watch out-of-market matchups.

For a price of $24.99, subscribers will be able to watch virtually every out-of-market game, including simulcasts of local pre and post-game coverage.

Unlike MLB's own network, MLB Extra Innings is a cable-based service that allows fans to catch out-of-market action on their TV. For the price of $149.99 for the entire season, a subscription to MLB Extra Innings could belong to you.

MLB Extra Innings is ideal for fans who live in the same region as their favorite team. This is due to the fact that, in addition to all local sports listings, Extra Innings subscribers can access about 90 out-of-market MLB games each week. A San Francisco Giants fan living in San Francisco would have no problem watching the New York Yankees play in New York.

Some fans are wondering if they should scrap their existing MLB TV subscription through the MLB Network and opt instead for an Extra Innings subscription.

Although Extra Innings may cost marginally more than a regular subscription to the network, fans will get their money's worth. Extra Innings is simply unmatched by the amount of out-of-market games it will allow hardcore baseball fans to catch action from around the continent.

It bears mentioning that those who were expecting to watch the league's network through YouTube TV are out of luck. The streaming service failed to renew its deal with the league and will not be showing games as of the end of March.

MLB Network and MLB Extra Innings are sure to make 2023 a wild ride

If you are keen to see the best of the majors in 2023, you are virtually guaranteed not to be disappointed. With such unprecedented access, it has never been a better time to be a baseball fan.

So tune in, sit back, and watch the Houston Astros defend their World Series title in 2023, along with Aaron Judge his home run record.
