Jackson Merrill and Luis Arraez are two of the biggest reasons the San Diego Padres are where they are. After the Padres clinched a berth in the NLDS on Wednesday, the respective partners of Arraez and Merrill took to Instagram to issue praise.

Sammie Quinn, Jackson Merrill's girlfriend, posted an image of the electric rookie enjoying a celebratory cigar following the Padres' 5-4 win over Atlanta. Merrill went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs in his team's Game 2 Wild Card series victory. Sammie captioned her story: "NLDS here we come."

The other Padres player to gain a shoutout from his significant other was Luis Arraez, who became the first player to win the batting title with three different teams. Since arriving in San Diego via a May 4 trade with the Miami Marlins, the Venezuelan has hit .318/.346/.398.

Arraez's wife, Gladys, took to her Instagram after San Diego's win over the Atlanta Braves to congratulate her husband. Arraez went 2-for-5 with a run scored in the victory. The 27-year-old will advance into the Divisional Series for the first season since 2019.

Luis Arraez and Jackson Merrill will ensure a good series against LA

Both Jackson Merrill and Luis Arraez put up incredible seasons in 2024.

Merrill, 21, had quite the campaign in his first year. In addition to hitting .292/.326/.500 in 156 games, the Baltimore native connected for 24 homers and 90 RBIs. Moreover, in 12 games this season against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Merrill hit .348 with sixteen hits, a home run, and four RBIs.

With Merrill projected to win the NL Rookie of the Year Award, Arraez became the first player in 20 years to log 200 hits in consecutive seasons.

He spoke to ESPN about the run-up to the milestone:

"This one was hard. I couldn't sleep last night, I'm not perfect. I say to myself, you've got to do something, that's never happened. But I'm not perfect."

We are now two days away from the 2024 NLDS. If the poise, intensity and talent that the Padres exemplified in their short series against Atlanta will carry on to the NLDS, then fans can expect a very entertaining series indeed.
