He started playing high school baseball at Wesleyan Christian Academy where he undrafted after graduating in 2021. Cozart earned all-state honour as a sophomore and senior. Coming out of high school, Cozart had a remarkable career and selected North Carolina State University for his collegiate baseball journey.

Cozart has been a three-year starter behind the plate at NC State where he managed a starting role right into his rookie campaign. His numbers kept on improving year over year and he enjoyed a stellar campaign this year. Cozart jumped to .305/.437/.601 with 68 hits, seven doubles, 19 homers, and 54 RBIs. Cozart is ranked as one of the top catchers in the country and also offers a 20-homer potential from the left side of the plate.
