It was a year to remember for veteran relief pitcher Jeff Hoffman. The 31-year-old enjoyed the best season of his MLB career and it could not have come at a more opportune time. The 2024 All-Star posted an impressive 2.17 ERA with a career-high 89 strikeouts over 66.1 innings of work for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Now an unrestricted free agent, Jeff Hoffman is one of the most coveted relief pitchers in baseball and should have plenty of contenders lining up to secure his signature. Fortifying bullpens has been a major priority for teams in recent years, which is another reason why Hoffman should be able to land an impressive contract somewhere across the league.
Here's a closer look at 3 potential landing spots for Jeff Hoffman in free agency
#1 - Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox are not messing around this offseason, making several significant moves, including acquiring the likes of Walker Buehler, Garrett Crochet and Aroldis Chapman. Hoffman could be the next major addition for the club as they look to return to World Series contention sooner rather than later.
Although there is no guarantee that Hoffman would be handed the closer role if he were to join the Red Sox, the veteran could help create a lockdown bullpen core with Aroldis Chapman and Liam Hendriks.
#2 - New York Mets
The New York Mets have been one of the most active teams this offseason by adding the likes of Juan Soto, Clay Holmes and Frankie Montas. The Mets will be a true contender in 2025, however, they will need to address a few spots before making a deep postseason run.
By adding a proven arm out of the bullpen such as Jeff Hoffman, manager Carlos Mendoza would have some quality alternatives out of the pen aside from All-Star Edwin Diaz. If Hoffman is looking to secure his first World Series title, the Mets could be his best option. Plus, Steve Cohen is not afraid to hand out cheques, so they might be able to hand him his desired salary.
#3 - Philadelphia Phillies
Sometimes the grass is not always greener on the other side, which makes a return to the Philadelphia Phillies an intriguing option for Jeff Hoffman. The veteran enjoyed the best season of this career with the club and they will once again be considered one of the favorites to win the World Series in 2025. A return shouldn't be ruled out, even with the addition of Jordan Romano earlier this offseason.
