American professional baseball pitcher Joe Musgrove was born on December 4, 1992, and currently plays for the Major League Baseball (MLB) San Diego Padres. He also played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Houston Astros in the past.

While playing with future Pittsburgh Pirates teammate Steven Brault at Grossmont High School in El Cajon during his junior year, Musgrove demonstrated promise as a two-way player. In 2010, Musgrove pitched 77 innings with an 11-1 win–loss record, an ERA of 2.07, five saves, and record 70 strikeouts. During his short career, he also recorded nine home runs, 35 runs batted in (RBIs), and a .430 batting average. Musgrove's record fell to 7–5 the following season, but he still had an ERA of 2.40 with a batting average of .350, nine home runs, and thirty-two RBIs in 78 innings pitched.

Musgrove had a fantastic 2022 season, pitching 181 innings with a career-low 2.93 ERA—the lowest ERA among the Padres starting rotation that year. Among eligible NL starting pitchers, Musgrove had the ninth-lowest ERA in 2022, with 21 of his 30 starts coming from quality starts. The same year he was named to his first All-Star game.
