Former Oakland Athletics star Jose Canseco forayed into the world of boxing in 2008. However, in 2011, he backed out of a scheduled boxing bout against Billy Padden and substituted his twin brother Ozzie for him.
The boxing event was set to take place in front of 400 people in Florida's Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. “Celebrity Boxing”, the federation under whose banner Jose was fighting, recognized the deceitful act when Ozzie took off his shirt. The twin brothers had different tattoos, which led to Ozzie being caught.
"A bait-and-switch," promoter Damon Feldman said. "I'm disgusted. The guy I thought was Jose kept asking me to pay him in cash before [the fight]. I told him I had to pay him by check for business reasons. He said he needed cash. We went back and forth."
Canseco's questionable boxing career came to an end when Feldman filed a lawsuit against him, seeking compensation.
