Houston Astros closer Josh Hader and his wife Maria are housing a dual-sport athlete. During spring training at Palm Beaches in Florida, Hader's son Lucas joined kids of other Astros players to play baseball while their dads warmed up for the regular season.
On Monday, Maria revealed Lucas' interest in another sport, golf. Lucas can be seen taking a swing using a golf club. Maria wrote in her story:
"It's either baseball or golf all day everyday."
This isn't the first time Maria has documented Lucas' interest in golf. Earlier in May, Josh Hader was seen teaching his son golf at a course.
"This is his dream day lol," Maria wrote in her story.
Josh Hader and Maria, who have been married since Nov. 30, 2021, welcomed son Lucas in June 2022.
Josh Hader and Maria decide to join Houston this offseason
For the first time last offseason, the three-time NL Reliever of the Year was going to choose where he wanted to play in the majors. After much contemplation, Hader and his wife, whom he first met at Corpus Christi in Texas, decided the Astros would be the right fit for the couple and their growing family.
"(Houston) was one of the places we really had in mind. Why not be here? We had a connection here before. This is an organization that strives on relationships," Hader said via Chandler Rome of The Athletic.
The closer signed a five-year, $95 million deal in the offseason. Another reason Hader joined the Astros was due to their competitive team that can contend for the World Series.
"The biggest thing for us was winning a World Series," Hader said. "The Houston Astros have done that. When you're looking from the outside in, looking at these guys and the way they go about their business, the way they play the game and the camaraderie in between."
As the closer for the Astros this season, Hader has done reasonably well, going 6-7 while earning the save in 28 games. He has posted a 3.24 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 87 strikeouts in 58.1 innings this regular season. With the Houston Astros positioned well to make the postseason, he'll be an important asset for the team down the stretch.
