Hailing from Mahwah, New Jersey, he attended Mahwah High School where he displayed his versatility by playing as a shortstop, outfielder, pitcher, and catcher. Following his graduation, Teel showcased his skills in summer collegiate baseball with the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters of the Northwoods League. Despite having only 97 at bats, he maintained an impressive batting average of .258/.348/.392.
