Notable for being “America’s favorite pasttime”, Major League Baseball (MLB) is notable for gaining around $1.6 billion revenues per year and $12 billion revenues from its U.S. TV sports rights. As a result, it has become the topmost level of professional baseball in America.

The league was first started as the National League (NL) that formed in 1876. This was followed by the formation of the American League (AL) in 1901 and then both these leagues decided to cooperate with each other by signing a National Agreement in 1903. However, both these leagues remained as separate legal entities until they merged in 2000 under the supervision of the Commissioner of Baseball. In between these years, the sport managed to remain popular throughout major events like the Black Sox Scandal, Great Depression and World War II. Moreover, Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier further increased the interest of the audience to the sport. Moreover, MLB is headquatered in Midtown Manhattan.

In the present times, MLB continues to be popular among the Americans drawing new generations of fans to the game. It has also managed to create its own stars and Hall of Famers through the game.
