The new manager for the Los Angeles Angels is Ronald Washington, also known as Ron Washington. He has replaced Phil Nevin as the manager for the 2024 MLB season. Nicknamed “Sweeet”, Washington has also managed the Texas Rangers from 2007-2014.
Ron Washington previously had also been a baseball player, notably a shortstop for MLB teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians and Houston Astros in between 1977 and 1989. Later he served the Oakland Athletics as their first base coach, infield coach and third base coach from 1996-2006 and again as an infield coach and third base coach from 2015-2016. From 2016-2023, he served as the third base coach for the Atlanta Braves and won his first World Series championship in 2021. As he takes the reins as the manager of the Los Angeles Angels in 2024, he is the only other African-American manager in MLB besides Dave Roberts of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
