The Los Angeles Dodgers received some bad news regarding starting pitcher Julio Urias. Urias injured his left hamstring and will be placed on the 15-day IL retroactive to May 19.
The team has called up Wander Suero to replace the injured Urias. On Thursday, Urias didn't look like his usual self on the mound against the St. Louis Cardinals. He let up four home runs in the span of five hitters.
This is yet another pitcher the Dodgers have placed on the IL this week. Earlier, they placed Dustin May on the IL after he had to leave his start on Wednesday. May is dealing with a flexor pronate strain and could miss a month.
This is a blow to the Dodgers, who are in first place in the National League West. They hold a three-game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks, who are nipping at their heels.
"Well, that's an unexpected twist" one fan tweeted.
"Somebody ask Mookie if he'll pitch" another fan tweeted.
Los Angeles Dodgers fans are devastated to see Julio Urias head to the IL. He's been on a tear the last few seasons, making a name for himself.
Fans are concerned about their starting rotation. They're missing two starters now. Hopefully, Suero can step up, because this team will need it.
Do the Los Angeles Dodgers have enough to stay atop the NL West?
Not many baseball fans were high on the Los Angeles Dodgers this season. They lost All-Star shortstop Trea Turner to free agency in the offseason.
The bad fortunes didn't stop in the offseason. They lost Gavin Lux in spring training as he tore his ACL on the basepaths. He was supposed to be the replacement for Turner.
Luckily, The Dodgers signed Miguel Rojas before all of this went down. He was supposed to be the team's utility man but had to step up as the everyday shortstop.
Despite losing Turner and Lux, Los Angeles has come out swinging this season. While they don't look like the same team that took the world by storm last season, they're still a great ball club. They have the talent to take them to the postseason.
Players like Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman have the leadership capabilities to carry this team this season. Don't sleep on the Dodgers this season. They seem just as competitive as they have been for the last decade.
