Mark David Melancon is a veteran American professional baseball pitcher currently on the Arizona Diamondbacks roster of Major League Baseball.
Born on March 28, 1985, in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, Mark attended Wheat Ridge High School, where he played baseball and basketball. Drafted initially in 2003 by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 30th round, Mark declined the offer so that he could attend the University of Arizona. He was then drafted by the New York Yankees in the ninth round of the 2006 MLB draft and made his major league debut with them in 2009.
He has since played for seven different teams; the Houston Astros, Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Nationals, San Francisco Giants, Atlanta Braves, and San Diego Padres. Mark has also established himself as one of the most consistent closers in baseball. He has led the National League in saves twice (2015, 2021) and has been an All-Star four times (2013, 2015, 2016, 2021). He also won the NL Reliever of the Year in 2015.
