Mason Miller is the best thing about the surprisingly decent Oakland Athletics. The closer is electric, throwing a killer off-speed pitch to go with a fastball that touches 104 miles per hour. At times, he is completely unhittable. He the kind of a player the Athletics haven't had for quite some time. That may mean he's the perfect trade piece.
It should be noted that the Athletics probably won't trade Mason Miller. They are known for shelling out everyone they have for prospects, but this is different. Miller is very young (25 years old) and has a lot of team control. So even if the A's are not good now, they might be able to build around Miller. Nevertheless, if some teams offer a haul, it might be enough. Here's which teams might want to do that.
Mason Miller Trade Destinations
3) Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers own the 26th-ranked bullpen by Fangraphs projections. If they're to repeat as World Series winners, that is the one area they're really going to have to shore up. The return of several starters will bolster the depth, but trading for someone like Mason Miller would give them a true stud in the pen and a lockdown reliever who will pay massive dividends come October.
2) Baltimore Orioles
The Craig Kimbrel experience isn't panning out like the Baltimore Orioles had hoped. They still have a solid bullpen, but Fangraphs ranks them as 22nd overall. They have the farm system to make the deal for Miller and they are arguably the deepest roster in the American League.
To ensure they're the team to beat this season and improve on their ALDS exit from 2023, they should make this trade and introduce their fans to one of the best relievers in baseball.
1) New York Yankees
The New York Yankees make the most sense for a Mason Miller trade. First of all, they are frequent trading partners with Oakland, as they've landed Frankie Montas and Sonny Gray from them recently. Second of all, the Yankees have a largely no-name bullpen that's exceeding expectations. They need to bolster that with another legitimate star, and Miller would be a perfect set-up man for Clay Holmes.
