He played in the Minor League from 2007 to 2011 and debuted with the Tampa Bay Rays in the Major Leagues. He has also played for other teams such as the San Francisco Giants, Texas Rangers, Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Angels, Cleveland Guardians, and the Miami Marlins quite recently.

He is a free agent currently. Matt has also played in the Nippon Professional Baseball, where he played for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks team. During his time in the NPB, he also became the Japan Series Champion in 2020. He also made it to the All-Star team in 2013.
