Matthew Kent Olson is an American professional baseball first baseman. He is currently signed to the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played for the Oakland Athletics in the MLB.

Born March 29, 1994, in Atlanta, Olson went to Parkview High School in Lilburn, Georgia. He is the second son of parents Scott and Lee Olson. He has an older brother named Zach who played as a pitcher for the Harvard Crimson.

Olson was drafted by the Athletics in the first round of the 2012 MLB draft and made his MLB debut with them in 2016. After six seasons with the Athletics, he was traded to the Braves prior to the 2022 season. Olson has won two Gold Glove Awards, and three Fielding Bible Awards, and was an All-Star in 2021 and 2023. He was also the MLB home run and RBI leader in 2023.

He currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia, with his wife Nicole whom he married in November 2021. Olson has dedicated much of his spare time to extending his support with ReClif, a treatment and fitness center for people with autism. He was nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award for his tireless work in 2023.

Scott Olson is the father of Matt Olson. An avid baseball fan himself, Scott coached his sons Zach and Matt throughout their youth days. Scott drove his sons to various local parks in Lilburn, giving his sons a taste of the game all over the place.

Credited for his innovative teaching, Matt has often credited his father's training methods coupled with his constant support as a major factor for all his success. Matt has often praised his dad on camera, always grateful for everything that he has done for him.

Lee Olson is the mother of Matt Olson. Matt has managed to keep his mother away from the limelight despite his flourishing career in the majors. Matt, however, did give his mother a wholesome birthday shoutout once, way back in June 2018. He displayed a birthday message to her on the digital screen at the stadium, with the crowd chiming in with their wishes. Matt and the Athletics beat the Kansas City Royals 3-2 that day.
