Rising star Jackson Holliday is having a strong rookie season for the Baltimore Orioles. After being sent back down to triple-A after initially struggling in the big leagues, Holliday has looked a different player since his recall in July.
The talented youngster comes from a proper baseball family as his father, uncle and brother all are involved in the sport at different levels. Jackson's father, Matt, enjoyed a long and successful career in the major leagues, playing professional baseball for 14 years. Holliday Sr. played for the Colorado Rockies, Oakland Athletics, St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Yankees.
Jackson's uncle, Josh, is Matt's older brother and the coach of Oklahoma State University's baseball team. After two years in the major leagues as a player, Josh shifted back to where he played at the collegiate level, but this time as a coach. Under Josh's guidance, the Oklahoma State baseball program has won the Big 12 four times.
Finally, Jackson's younger brother Ethan is potentially the "most talented member of the family," according to Jackson himself. The 17-year-old is one of the leading prospects in the country and is projected to be the No. 1 pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. That would make Jackson and Ethan the first-ever brothers to be drafted No. 1 overall.
Jackson Holliday catches opening pitch by father Matt at Coors Field
Former Colorado Rockies player Matt Holliday threw the ceremonial first pitch to son Jackson Holliday, before the Orioles-Rockies clash at Coors Field on Saturday. The Rockies took a 3-0 lead in the second inning, before the Orioles came back to tie it at 5-5. Eventually, the hosts prevailed 7-5 with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The O's take on the Rockies in the final game of the series on Sunday, with both sides having won a game so far. Jackson Holliday and his teammates will be hoping to clinch a series victory with a win, as the Orioles look to come back from a home series loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Wins are important, with the O's challenging the New York Yankees for the AL East title. The Orioles can ill-afford dropping any more games as they come into Sunday's clash with only one win in their last four.
