New York Mets News: Max Scherzer used a PitchCom

In New York Mets news, ace pitcher Max Scherzer was seen using a PitchCom on his glove. This device allows him to call his own pitches to the catcher. For veterans like Scherzer, this is a nice device to use.

Instead of using signals, which can be stolen or misinterpreted, Scherzer can key in whatever he's going to throw and only his catcher can feel the signals in return. He used to be against this sort of devices, but he seems to be coming around to the idea.

At the very least, he's testing it out in Spring Training. It remains to be seen if he'll use it during the regular season.

In other Mets news, pitcher David Peterson had an impressive start to his spring training. The young pitcher tossed two shutout innings in his spring debut, which is a welcome sight for manager Buck Showalter and the rest of the staff.

Even with Justin Verlander coming to town, the Mets lost Jacob deGrom and Chris Bassitt. Peterson will be vital to their success and their depth.

Peterson said via the New York Post:

“I have really tried to have five pitches that the hitters have to worry about instead of two or three and then have another few that I might throw. But to spread out some of that usage and have multiple weapons against different hitters.”

It could be a big season for him.

Mets News: Max Scherzer really likes the pitch clock

In other Mets news, Scherzer, who is also using the PitchCom device, loves the new pitch clock rules. Scherzer believes it gives power to the pitchers, as he told ESPN:

"Really, the power the pitcher has now -- I can totally dictate pace. The rule change of the hitter having only one timeout changes the complete dynamic of the hitter-and-pitcher dynamic. I love it."

Pitchers are also in complete control of the at-bat, even if they have to adhere to the time limits, too. Scherzer has always been interested in manipulating and messing with hitters and he sees this as another opportunity to do just that.
