In August, MLB legend Miguel Cabrera announced his intention to return to the Detroit Tigers for the 2023 season. The future first-ballot Hall of Famer told The Detroit News' Chris McCosky, "I'm not going to give up. ... Next year, I'll be right here."
"Baseball will be losing another all time great this upcoming season. Miguel Cabrera will join Adam Wainwright in retirement" - Janelle Dunn
He may no longer be the player he once was, but his respect around the league makes an uncompetitive Detroit Tigers team worthy of some attention. Cabrera is coming off one of his least productive seasons. Although every stat he adds propels him higher on various all-time record lists, "Miggy" only managed to total five home runs and 43 RBIs while batting .254.
While baseball fans everywhere know how successful Cabrera has been as one of the best players of his generation, the slugging first baseman has more to him than his career numbers. Here is a look at three fun facts about Cabrera that fans may not have known.
1. Miguel Cabrera's mother was a star softball player
Like many professional athletes, they tend to have followed in their parents' athletic footsteps. For the Detroit Tigers superstar, those footsteps belonged to his mother Gregoria. Like her son, Gregoria was a hard-hitting slugger, playing shortstop and batting cleanup for Venezuela’s national softball team.
"Miguel Cabrera's mom Goya just wanted to have a happy boy following her when playing in the venezuelan softball national team; instead of that, she ended following him his way to Cooperstown. Oh, boy! @MLB @tigers @fudexbaseball @IvanMedinaM @MiguelCabrera" - @LuisYunko
2. "Miggy" Cabrera, the recording artist
"Miggy" is featured on a Latin Hip-Hop track by Sibilino entitled “Miggy Al Bate” or “Miggy At Bat”. The song is featured on the album Sin Ø, which was released in 2020.

3. Cabrera is a die-hard Disney World fan
Growing up in Venezuela, Cabrera spent his entire childhood dreaming of visiting Disney World. Since his playing career (and salary) has allowed him to go anywhere he wants, Cabrera and his family have been to the park more times than one could count.
